Kolos - are round or line dances which are danced in celebration of life's milestones, holidays and various social occasions which provide opportunities for peoples of all ages to fraternize. It is not uncommon to see whole families from grandparents to parents to children dancing the kolo together. The dance steps resonate the topography of the land. From the gentle rolling hills dotted by thick green forests to the deeply cut valleys, the dance steps vary from light, intricate, undulating steps of the ‘lowlands' to quick, high-stepping energetic hops, leaps, and stamps much like the Irish highland dance movements. The songs are typical of the Serbian vocal tradition with a strong leading voice joined by other voices in a harmonic two-voice.
